Souvessiles

MDo Lacquer is an artist who trained at ENSAD in Paris and subsequently learnt the art of plant-based lacquer in Hanoi. She returns regularly to Asia, the source of her inspiration, plant-based lacquer and the materials required for her works. Souvessiles is a timeless botanical world: the power of nature is balanced against its fragility in delicate sculptures that immortalise leaves and bark. Time lies at the heart of each piece, patiently coated with around thirty layers of lacquer. Each sculpture is a memento of a fleeting leaf, almost a fossil that will stand the test of time.
