Description
In the 19th century, when the concept of ‘matrimoine’ had not yet been coined, Delphine de Girardin was the author of a body of work that has been unjustly overlooked. Through poetry, the body and the power of her imagery, Maryse Estier restores a voice to her modernity.
Coming of age, mental health, love, the hypocrisy of society: even if they are no longer expressed in alexandrines, the questions addressed to young people have not changed! Written in verse, *Napoline* is a work as unique as Delphine de Girardin herself. Taking inspiration from this freedom-loving woman of letters and her romantic heroine, Maryse Estier has created a performance in the form of a fairy tale for two actresses. Tulle, two-way mirrors, holographic films, optical illusions… This production plays as much with the fabric of language as with that of the stage, holding up a poetic mirror to the battered dreams of youth. Echoing Napoline’s tragic fate, this performance is like a cry to silence, for a moment, ‘lies, vanity, misery and despair’.
