Description
Women’s struggle for a life that reflects who they are spans all corners of the globe. Through portraits of daughters in exile and mothers who have remained at home, Wang Jing weaves a splendid poem that bridges disciplines. Jing is Chinese, Fatim was born in Mali, Mitra left Iran after the Revolution. What do they have in common? France as their destination. And more nostalgia for their mothers than for their homeland. The first work written in French by the Chinese author Wang Jing, *Moi, elles* is a work of fiction inspired by real life, exploring the relationships between mothers and their daughters through the lens of their turbulent life journeys. On stage, a trio of performers share a theatrical and dance-based piece, accompanied from the sidelines by a musician who fills the space with percussion and electronic textures. With its breadth, dramatic intensity and delicate beauty, *Moi, elles* reminds us that departure stems from many motivations interwoven with necessity, intimacy and politics. In this respect, Wang Jing’s deeply sensitive words offer the most beautiful of welcoming lands.
