Liszt, confidences et passions

This composer took Romanticism to new heights, was revered during his lifetime, and yet is said to have declared that he was composing for the year… 2000! As they embark on a new musical adventure, Victor Julien-Laferrière and the Consuelo Orchestra are bringing ‘Lisztomania’ back into fashion. Following their complete Beethoven cycle and Tchaikovsky suites, this young and talented ensemble, based at the Auxerre Conservatoire, is now setting out to follow in Liszt’s footsteps, focusing in particular on a genre he pioneered: the ‘symphonic poem’. Exploring the idea of music that tells stories, Victor Julien-Laferrière approaches the pieces in this programme as a series of dramatic themes, reflecting the Hungarian composer’s vision of destiny. For now, it is at the Théâtre d’Auxerre – and just a few days before their performance at the Philharmonie de Paris – that Consuelo takes to the stage in fine form, joined by the exceptional pianist Jean-Frédéric Neuburger and the splendid voices of the La Sportelle ensemble.
