Description
At once vast and sublime, dangerous and frightening, the sea never ceases to fascinate artists, who offer a wide range of rich representations. For Hiroshi Sugimoto, the sea is conducive to contemplation and meditation, while in the works of Philippe Ramette it takes on a strange, dreamlike dimension. The flows and tides that animate it inspire the movements of Javiera Tejerina-Risso's sculptures and Ange Leccia's videos. Photographer Ilanit Illouz immerses her photographs in salt water baths to crystallize them, while works by Francis Alys and Ai Weiwei remind us that the sea can also be a frontier, a danger, a tomb.
