The murder of Samuel Paty: one murderer, how many responsible? Alone on stage, Carole Bouquet gives a masterful performance of Émilie Frèche's play Le Professeur. Her voice brings out the words, but also the silences, of the ten days leading up to an end as tragic as it was avoidable.

The terrorist act struck France with shock 5 years ago. Beyond the defendants, what is the collective responsibility for the death of Samuel Paty? Emilie Frèche, a committed writer, sheds light in this text published in 2024 on the implacable spiral of which the professor was the designated victim, in full view of everyone. Untangling the web of responsibility, she recounts how, from colleagues to the educational establishment, everyone, in their irreducible sincerity, failed to take responsibility. Directed by Muriel Mayette-Holtz, Carole Bouquet brings this text to life, moving from one register to another to give voice to the protagonists. The Professor leads us into a necessary introspection in the face of the fear that creeps in, asking us about freedom and what we are prepared to do to preserve it.
