"Because I've come back from where no one else has, you think I know things. I only know the obvious: life, death and truth. I have come back from the truth. Charlotte Delbo had promised herself she would write this truth if she survived the camps. Taken from one of the many texts published up until her death in 1985, Je reviens de la vérité is, along with the rest of her work, an essential account of the deportation. It also reveals the talent of a passionate writer who left her job as assistant to Louis Jouvet, who was on tour in South America, to join the Resistance in France. Arrested on 24 January 1943, she was deported among 230 women to Auschwitz-Birkenau and then to Ravensbrück. Sylvie Pothier has chosen to adapt and stage this essential, sometimes little-known voice. Carried sensitively by the actress Vanessa Pivain, it speaks of horror, but also of solidarity, love of beauty and the desire to live despite everything.
